Samsung SDI SBB 1.5 is a containerized NCA battery energy storage system for utility-scale use. It provides 5.259 MWh nominal energy and 2.63 MW rated DC power as a DC block. The unit uses liquid cooling and 145 Ah prismatic cells, and weighs 40 tonnes (88,185 lb).
Use Cases
The Samsung SDI SBB 1.5 has an energy capacity within the utility-scale range. That specification points to use in front of the meter on the utility's side of the connection.
Capabilities
Samsung SDI SBB 1.5 holds about 2 h of storage at full power, calculated from 5.259 MWh and 2.63 MW. That configuration points to capacity value, standing in as firm capacity when demand peaks. Its DC block connects through a separate inverter. For it, the specifications suggest renewable colocation, operating alongside a wind or solar plant on one site. That configuration makes Samsung SDI SBB 1.5 a candidate for peak shaving, discharging into the hours of highest demand, and the specifications indicate grid services, support that helps operators run the electricity network.

Plant Round-Trip Efficiency
The calculator estimates the full "plant" round-trip efficiency (RTE) at the point of interconnection. Some values are pre-blocked depending on information on a particular ESS. The rows that are marked "each way" are one-way efficiencies; they are applied on charge and again on discharge. We then square them. To enter a bundled PCS efficiency value, use its rated-power value, not peak. If the PCS skid already includes the LV/MV transformer, set Transformer LV/MV to 100 % so those losses are not counted twice.
Site Space Required
Shared: one 3 m aisle serves both neighbours. Dedicated: each unit keeps its own 3 m, so gaps double to 6 m.
Single unit — matches the stored area_sqm convention.
